We’ve had a busy 12 months at our Pennine works, travelling the length and breadth of the UK, from the south coast to the Isle of Skye, undertaking large scale installations, sensitive plant removals and the full spectrum of boiler repairs, servicing and maintenance. We’ve even been below stairs at Buckingham Palace.
The New Year: Byworth YSX6000 Boilers
We started 2013 with the installation of two new steam boilers for a global food manufacturer. This large project for a longstanding client required our complete boiler installation services from the design phase through to the commissioning of two new boilers. Work included the removal of the existing boilers and pipework and the installation of two new Byworth YSX6000 boilers and ancillary equipment.
Over the past 12 months our traditional boilermaking techniques, such as hot riveting, have remained a sought after practise, with two large contracts being undertaken. In March we were contracted by a steel frame construction company in Northern Ireland to hot rivet over 200m of structural steelwork to be installed as a design feature in an international retailer's new store. Later in the year we undertook the on-site riveting of a huge teeming ladle for TATA steel. Our mobile riveting team travelled to the North West to hot rivet approximately 1500 1 ¼” diameter rivets in situ. We have similar projects on the horizon for 2014.
Spring: By Royal Appointment
In 2012 we were lucky enough to be invited to tender for the replacement of sections of the heating pipework at Buckingham Palace. We successfully completed the first project in May 2012 and were asked back in September 2012 and April of this year to carry out further pipework section installations. It was a truly remarkable experience for our small group of engineers and a relationship we hope continues long into the future.
Summer: Down in the Smoke
As well as the pipework at Buckingham Palace, we’ve spent quite a bit of time in the capital this year with prestigious work in Knightsbridge and the City. In May we undertook a sensitive job to remove three 30ft Lancashire Boilers from a large commercial building in the heart of the financial district. Over the course of a three week period, and without disruption to the day-to-day businesses and pedestrians, we carefully cut up the three boilers with oxy-propane cutting equipment and hoisted the plate sections from an underground basement to road level and into skips. The work was hot, sweaty and dirty but a true testament to engineering a solution and carrying it out with speed and precision.
Autumn: Feeling Hotwell
As autumn drew in a number of hotwell tanks were leaving our Farling Top works. Our newly designed tanks couple structural efficiency with the latest in monitoring and control equipment and have proved a popular choice for customers looking at making efficiency improvements to their overall steam systems. With careful consideration being given to future access and maintenance our finished hotwells are both efficient and practical.
Winter: New Year, New Workshop
Alongside regular service and maintenance contracts and the fabrication of boilerplant equipment at our works, our attention is focussed on completing a large boiler installation for a major food production company. With some exciting projects lined up for 2014, our aim for the year ahead is to add to the growing list of satisfied clients who keep returning due to the service and support they receive from our team.
